Real Salt Lake won the 2009 Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup Sunday and beat LA, after 90 minutes of regulation and 30 minutes of extra time, and in a shootout victory. This was second shootout victory for Real Salt Lake, who beat Chicago 5-4 in the Eastern Conference championship last week. Real Salt Lake stunned everyone by this victory over LA.
At the pre-press conference on Friday, both teams stressed the need to take advantage of any opportunities that presented itself during the game.
"It's been a great experience," David Beckham said. "It always helps if you've had a certain amount of success and we've had that so far. But we're not happy. We still want to win this game on Sunday, and hopefully we will."
