Video: Preview NASCAR Talladega Amp Energy 500

Like a ticking time bomb the track known as the home of the ‘big one’ waits.

Talladega Superspeedway, the 2.66 mile oval is NASCAR’s largest and with speeds hovering near 200 mile per hour one mistake while buried in a pack of 43 cars could spell disaster.

Hence the reason most drivers call Sunday’s Amp Energy 500 at Talladega Superspeedway a ‘Wild Card’ in NASCAR’s Chase for the Sprint Cup.

“It definitely is the wild card,” said point’s leader Jimmie Johnson who was fast enough in Friday’s first practice that he sat out the final session.  “There is a lot of risk at every track we go to but at this, we've all been here enough to see it, there really is no safe place to be on the track. It seems like you can prolong your opportunity to crash until later in the event which is a strategy we've played over the years. But at the end, when everyone is still trying to get the best finish they can, it's just full chaos at that point.”
