Video: Not many Republicans to attend Obamas' first state dinner despite numerous invites

Conservative media outlets like The Washington Times and Fox News are claiming that the Obama administration essentially snubbed Republicans from the guest list for the administration's first State Dinner.  The State Dinner will be held under a tent on the South Lawn at the White House (picture above) and will host Indian Prime Minster Manmohan Singh as a guest.  State Dinners are seen as the most glamorous events of the White House so an invite to the event is a sort of prize for the "A List" of politicians and celebrities who each administration feels is worthy.  The narrative being run by Fox News is that the Obama administration is being petty in not inviting Republicans because of the criticism the administration has received.

The only problem with the claim of Fox News and The Washington Times is that in fact a number of prominent Republicans were invited to the State Dinner.  Contrary to the claims of both outlets House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) actually was invited to the Dinner but turned down the invitation to be home during the week of Thanksgiving.  In addition Senator Dick Lugar (R-IN) and Governor Bobby Jindal (R-LA) both were invited to the event though they appear to have made room on their schedules to attend.  Finally Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY), another outspoken critic of the President, received an invitation but he too decided not to attend.  So right we know of only two Republicans who were invited to the State Dinner though that total would be larger had more accepted invitations.  It is also possible other Republicans were invited as the entire "invite list" has not yet been made public.

"Not Many Republicans to Attemd Obama's First State Dinner Despite Numerous Invites"

So out of a list of over 300, we know that 4 republicans were invited and of those, 2 aren't coming?

You make it look like republicans are snubbing Obama?

If Beck was this deceptive he would actualy deserve your critical articles.

Gigi, did you read the article?
did you see the last sentence?
"It is also possible other Republicans were invited as the entire "invite list" has not yet been made public."

    Chefs Dad says:
"...Wonder how many ACORN people were there?..."
ALL OF THEM! And they're gonna eat good too!
And they ALL thank the taxpayer!
In Fact, I'm gonna join ACORN just to get invited to the ACORN/White House dinner! I'm gonna be giving out free houses to prositution rings and their pimps and I don't care if Glenn Beck comes and films it all....then I'm going back through the foxnews mirror and realize that it was all just a dream and Beck wasn't the mad hatter....or, was he?

    Walrus,

Yes. it is possible that more republicans were invited.

That's why I said, "we 'know' that 4 republicans were invited and of those, 2 aren't coming".

Because that is all Witt knew and yet he wrote an article with a title indicating that 'numerous repubicans were invited', but not many were coming.

I don't know about you, but out of over 300 invited, I don't think it's accurate to call '4' numerous. The title made it sound like Witt knew someting that he didn't know...The title is all that most people read.

If Beck were this deceptive I would no longer trust him, but you go ahead and be a 'thinking person'. What ever floats your boat.

F all the republicans!!! The only event I would invite them to is ..........!
Come to think of it, I can't think of any event I'd want any republicans to attend.
