Natalie Cole has earned three Latin Grammy nominations from her first Spanish language album titled “Natalie Cole en Español”. The album received nominations for Album of the Year, Best Traditional Pop Vocal album and Record of the Year for the song "Bachata Rosa" that Natalie Cole recorded with Juan Luis Guerra.
The album was released In June, and debuted as the the top selling Latin album in the country and held the #1 spot on the Latin Pop Albums chart for nine weeks throughout the summer.
Cole has stated that the album was inspired by both a growing passion for the timeless romanticism of the great Latin music composers, and the bilingual recording legacy of her father. The album features a father/daughter duet Acércate Más” (Come Closer to Me) using the same recording techniques used for their posthumous pairing on 1991’s “Unforgettable,” which won Record of the Year.
The Latin Grammy nominations were held at a press conference was hosted by The Latin Recording Academy President/CEO Gabriel Abaroa Jr., and Univision television personality Chiquinquira "Chiqui" Delgado.
