American Idol kicked in to high gear Tuesday night thanks to contestant Michael Lynche, who blew the judges away with his rendition of 'This Woman's Work' in the final elimination round before Season 9's Top 12 are named.

Kara DioGuardi was moved to tears by the performance. Simon Cowell stated: "It's not just the best performance of the night. It's the best performance of all these live shows so far."

The song 'This Woman's Work' was originally written and performed by Kate Bush and used as part of the 'She's Having a Baby' soundtrack in 1988. The song had a resurgence in popularity when it was covered by neo-soul recording artist Maxwell in 1998. Maxwell's version of 'This Woman's Worked was used in the film 'Love and Basketball'.

Michael Lynche was one of the contestants featured in American Idol Season 9's early rounds. Lynche received the news that he had been named one of Idol's Top 24 on the same day that his wife gave birth to their first child. The results of Tuesday night's men's competition and Wednesday night's women's competition will be revealed during the American Idol results show Thursday night.
