Last night Meghan McCain revealed some more interesting details about Sarah Palin on the Jay Leno Show last night. McCain made the appearance as part of the promotion for her new book "Dirty Sexy Politics," which chronicles her life as the daughter of the former Republican nominee for President, Senator John McCain.
In the interview with Leno, Meghan McCain claims that she cried when she found out that her dad picked then-Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin as his running mate. McCain said her initial reaction was "Who the hell is Sarah Palin?" McCain also calls Palin a "time bomb" for the campaign, and states she was worried that Palin would have skeletons in her closet.
As Meghan McCain revealed in the rest of the interview, she was never very welcome in the McCain campaign for various reasons. Some of Meghan McCain's viewpoints, such as her support for gay rights, do not fit well with the Republican base. In addition, advisers were worried about Meghan McCain's appearance and "distracting" quotes she might make. As it turned out, Palin ended up providing some of the more costly gaffes of the 2008 campaign.
