"After reviewing the ad, which is entirely commercial in nature, our standards and practices department decided not to accept this particular spot," said CBS spokeswoman Shannon Jacobs. "We are always open to working with a client on alternative submissions."
CBS said that they turned down the commercial partly for financial reasons.
"It's straight-up discrimination," said Elissa Buchter, ManCrunch spokeswoman.
CNN Money received a copy of the CBS rejection letter and stated that the commercial "is not within the Network's broadcast standards for Super Bowl Sunday."
In addition, the letter states that the CBS sales department "has had difficulty verifying [ManCrunch's] credit status."
The 30-second TV commercial time slots range from $2.5-$3 million during the Super Bowl.
Initially, when ManCrunch applied for the TV spot, CBS said that they were sold out of commercial air time during the Super Bowl, but now Jacobs said that they were "virtually sold out. We have one, maybe two spots left."
Salt Lake City, Utah has a large openly gay population. Utah soared from 38th in 1990, to # 14 in 2006 in the US gayest states, according to the 2006 American Community Survey.
