Video: Kimberly Munley, the hero who shot down Nidal Malik Hasan

Kimberly Munley is the police officer who shot alleged Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan Thursday.  Munley confronted Hasan, shot him four times and was shot in the encounter.  Munley, 34 is recovering from her wounds and is doing well.

Munley’s neighbors call her the enforcer on their street, because she patrols the neighborhood and once stopped burglars at her house by shouting, “If you come in, I’m going to shoot.”

On Thursday, Munley arrived within three minutes to the scene on Fort Hood where 13 people were killed, and 28 injured by alleged gunman, Major Nidal Malik Hasan.

"Her efforts were superb," said Col. Steven Braverman, the base hospital commander.

Lt. Gen. Bob Cone described Munley as a "trained, active first responder" who acted quickly and "just happened to encounter the gunman." "Really a pretty amazing and aggressive performance by this police officer," he said.

A Facebook fan page set up within the last day is called, "Sgt. Kimberly Munley: A Real American Hero." People have been leaving comments on the page all day and had more than 1,400 members.

In a CNN interview Cone was asked if Munley's shots brought down the shooter and stopped him from continuing to shoot others. "That's correct," Cone said. "The critical factor here was her quick response to the situation."

Two of the victims from Thursday’s shooting at Fort Hood in Texas were from Utah. Aaron Thomas Nemelka, 19, from West Jordan, Utah died at the scene. Joey Foster, 21, from Ogden, Utah was shot in the hip and needs to have surgery to have the bullet removed.
