Video: Jon Stewart again criticizes conservative hysteria over Khalid Sheikh Mohammad trial

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other terrorist will be tried in New York City.  AP Photo

On his show last night Jon Stewart focused on recent criticism from Republicans regarding the Obama administration decision to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other terrorists in New York City.  Included in the highlights are from Representatives John Shadegg (R-AZ), MichaelMcCaul (R-TX), and Louie Gohmert (R-TX) in which they all warn of the alleged danger created by the trials.  One strange moment came when Rep. Gohmert actually paused to eat something while giving a speech about the impending doom coming to America.  Rep. Shadegg went as far as to come up with new ways terrorits could attack the United States and broadcast such ideas to the world.

It seems in all the polls the majority are AGAINST KSM being tried in civil court.

As usual you leftists are on the wrong side of the issue.

It will come back to haunt the leftists on 11-2010.

Hey, Locked and Loaded (definitely not referring to your brain with that one): Maybe you're the one who really wants a terrorist attack in the U.S. Gee, what a patriot you are! Get a life, loser!

  • Paul Stanley 2 years ago

Every time I think the republicans cannot do or say anything more ridiculous, they somehow manage to do it anyway. Damn they are stupid.

There was one a few weeks ago! Where were you? 14 people were killed and 30 wounded.

What was so stupid? Care to point it out?

All I want is an intelligent argument in favor of this circus.

Why are they doing this. It makes no sense.

And why don't libs who comment here make a point. They are excellent at name calling and ridiculing without making a logical point!

Here's your chance, Witt Explain to us how it's good for America to have these terrorists tried in NYC.

  • Ryan Witt 2 years ago

    Gigi: OK I will bite.
    (1) We can kill him after he is convicted. If we would have done so without a fair trial in our U.S. courts the world would have thrown a fit. Which bring me to #2.
    (2) It will improve our world image. You can say that does not matter but the fact is Bush struggled to get ANYTHING done with world cooperation in his second term because most of the world hated us so much after his first term. The dividends of improved relations with the world come about slowly but they do pay off and we have already seen some results.
    (3) Ultimately we show that we win the war on terror. An attack on us was also an attack on our way of life and our government. If we succumb to doing away with rights the terrorist win. By continuing to uphold the rights of people (even those we hate) we win.
    (4) Public trials were clearly respected by our forefather as the Constitution guarantees this right. A public trial ensures that it is done right.

    (5) They will all be convicted. If they are not I will readily concede that I was wrong and you can hammer this point over my head as much as you want.
    (6) They will not be allowed to spew propaganda during the trial. Anyone who thinks that does not know how trial work. They are very structured and if someone just starts giving a political speech they will find themselves escorted out fairly quickly.
    (7) And if KSM is able to make a few points who cares. I personally think that the arguments of the terrorists are horrible and the more they are allowed to spew their illogical hatred the more they are exposed. I am not afraid of KSM's arguments because I believe we are right and that will come out in the trial.
    (8) We have tried terrorists before. No major incidents occurred. All were convicted. So history is on the side of having the trials here.
    (9) In sentencing the victims can go up on the stand and force the terrorists to listen to them while they tell them to go to
