It’s Punxsutawney Phil vs Staten Island Chuck on Groundhog Day. Punxsutawney Phil from Pennsylvania is the traditional groundhog who gives a glimpse of whether we will have six more weeks of winter or not. This year, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow so six more weeks of winter it will be, said Punxsutawney Phil’s announcer.  See the video below for Phil's announcement.

However, several hundred miles away Staten Island Chuck didn’t see his shadow and according to tradition there, we will have an early spring. You may remember Staten Island Chuck as the groundhog who bit New York mayor Michael Bloomberg last year.

Now as far as groundhog’s go…. Punxsutawney Phil is usually the last word on spring. But Staten Island Chuck has predicted an early spring for the last ten years. While Punxsutawney Phil has only predicted one early spring in the last ten years in 2007.

Many news reports have reported this winter as being one of the coldest since the 1970s, and many people are ready for this winter to end. So when Staten Island Chuck didn’t see his shadow this morning, many people on the east coast were excited.

So here are the statistics: Punxsutawney Phil has been right 39% of the time according to StormTrax Weather Almanac and records dating back to 1887, a TV station in Pennsylvania reported.
Whereas, Chuck has only been predicting for the last 29 years has been right 22 times which gives him a 76% accuracy rate.

People around the country are curious to know if winter will continue for another six week or end. Diane Juarez of Salt Lake City, Utah said yesterday, “I hope Punxsutawney Phil doesn’t see his shadow because I want winter to be over.”

So there you have it most likely there will be an early spring this year.
