On the popular CBS daytime drama, “The Bold and the Beautiful,” the Dollar Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) vs Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) rivalry is coming to a head as Ridge works overtime to gets the truth about the details of his accident in Abu Dhabi that left him with a concussion and memory loss.

Daytime TV Examiner caught up with Diamont at the CBS TCA party to get his thoughts on Bill’s controversial actions and also to get his thoughts on why he feels the show is so popular around the world.

Check out the interview with Diamont below:

Phyllis: There’s been a lot of conversation about Bill Spencer. What is his point of view in this particular storyline?

Don Diamont: When you say this particular storyline, you mean dumping Ridge out of the helicopter?

Phyllis: Yeah, the one that’s airing right now.

Don Diamont: Well, you know. Bill does not suffer fools lightly. If someone is going to behave in the way that Ridge did, which was with no justification, because that selfie was taken when Bill was drunk. Ridge and Brooke were getting married that night so he could do whatever he wanted to do. So in that situation, breaking up the man’s wedding, you got to pay a little price for that. He didn’t intend to kill him or injure him. He just wanted to get him a little wet. Teach him a lesson. So yeah I think he was justified.

Phyllis: Do you think this will affect Justin (Aaron D. Spears) and Bill’s relationship?

Don Diamont: No, not at all, they’re bros.

Phyllis: Your passport must be crazy, filled with stamps from all the places you’ve traveled with the show. How was your latest trip to Abu Dhabi?

Don Diamont: It was a really unique experience.

Phyllis: I heard you went skydiving.

Don Diamont: Yeah, the skydiving. That was pretty cool. That was something I had no burning desire to do. I was just really kind of motivated by the location. You know that picture over Palm Island? I saw Will Smith on Jimmy Fallon the week before we were going and he had taken that picture.

Phyllis: That was your motivation for it?

Don Diamont: Yeah. When I saw that picture, I said, “I got to do it.”

Phyllis: You’ve seen all the ups and downs of daytime in your career. There were once twelve shows on the air, now there are four. I know how drastically it’s changed but in what ways are things still the same for you?

Don Diamont: It is the same. It’s really no different for me. “B &B” is the most watched show, daytime show in the world and we’re going strong. In fact, we’ve increased viewership, we’ve increased in our key demographics and we’re doing location shoots and having a blast. Thankfully, I’m still doing what I’m doing. What’s I’ve been doing my whole adult life. I’m grateful and very thrilled.

Phyllis: And why do you think the show is so popular around the world?

Don Diamont: They really pushed it internationally. When the show was first on the air. They did a big international push and they got a real foothold. It’s based in LA and the fashion industry, And then of course with [creator, the late] Bill Bell, the master at the helm and he certainly knew what he was doing in terms of creating compelling story and characters that people wanted to watch. [Executive producer and head writer] Brad is equally as gifted. He put his own spin on things. There’s a lot of consistency in that regard. So I think that certainly has a lot to do with it, with the show’s longevity and popularity.

Phyllis: Speaking of longevity, I love Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang). She's been on the show since Day 1. She seems to be the center of this Bill vs Ridge feud storyline. Tell me a little bit about working with Katherine.

Don Diamont: She’s such a pleasure…such a good person…such a wonderful talent. She’s always in a good mood, good sense of humor and she’s a total pleasure. I’m very lucky with everybody on the show really. All our people are terrific people and are a pleasure to work with. I’m surrounded with wonderful actors who also happen to be wonderful people.

Phyllis: It seems silly to call it a quad but you’ve got some strong actors you’re working with. Thorsten, Heather [Tom] (Katie), you’ve got Katherine and yourself. When the four of you have scenes together, how do you prepare for those?

Don Diamont: It’s the same way I prepare for every scene.

Phyllis: With the four of you, what can you tell me? Is it going to get messier with these characters' love lives?

Don Diamont: The quadrangle?

Phyllis: Yeah, Brooke, Ridge, Bill and Katie.

Don Diamont: I don’t really know what Brad’s got cooking, you know.

Phyllis: How far ahead do you like to know what’s going to happen on the show?

Don Diamont: I don’t really need to know too far ahead. [Brad] knows what he’s doing.

Phyllis: Lastly, what are you doing on your break? You’re having a lot of time to enjoy yourself, I imagine.

Don Diamont: Yeah. I took an RV trip with the kids, then my wife and I went to Mexico last week for about four days. Then we’re going to see my son and we’re taking our little…our 11 year old and our 13 year old and going to Bloomington to see my son. He’s playing football there.

Phyllis: That’s where I went to school. IU Bloomington.

Don Diamont: Yeah, we’re going there next week.

Phyllis: Have fun and thank you for taking the time to talk to me.

Don Diamont: No problem. Nice talking to you.

Catch Don as Dollar Bill Spencer on “The Bold and the Beautiful” airing weekdays on CBS.
