Howard Stern made a rare TV appearance Tuesday morning on the CBS Early Show where he slammed Tonight Show host Jay Leno, calling him a "lap dog" and a "thief".
Howard Stern was asked to be part of the CBS Early Show to comment on Jay Leno's Monday night return to The Tonight Show because of his vocal criticism of Leno. Because Howard Stern and the CBS Early Show broadcast simultaneously, Stern was interviewed by Harry Shearer via a remote camera in the Sirius XM Howard Stern Show studios.

Howard Stern wasted no time laying into Jay Leno:
"Just the mere mention of Jay Leno's name makes me wanna vomit. I don't like this guy. I don't disguise it, and probably what irritates me most is people in show business are afraid to say how much they like Jay Leno and I am not. I don't need Jay."
CBS Early Show host Harry Shearer asked Howard Stern where his seemingly "deep-seated" dislike of Jay Leno comes from:
"Jay Leno pushed Johnny Carson out of The Tonight Show, that was number one and he did it in a merciless way," said Howard Stern, reminding audiences of the late night talk show scandal that rocked 90s television. "Jay Leno seems to be the kind of show biz animal that will not let go."

Howard Stern called Jay Leno a "lap dog" for his willingness to go to whatever timeslot NBC directs him towards, and said that he "sabotaged" Conan O'Brien:
"Jay should have dusted himself off, gone to another network, he certanly had the money and the offers and he should've gone and should've gone and beaten Conan and beaten Dave and beaten Jimmy Kimmel, all those guys. Jay completely sabotaged [Conan O'Brien] by going on at 10:00. They gave Jay all the best guests. They took away all of Conan O'Brien's excitement and thunder."
Stern then laid into Jay Leno's writing team: "Jay is also a thief and that's what gets my goat the most."
