(Video) Helicopter prison escape foiled: Greek prison break attempt grounded

Authorities in Greece foiled a helicopter prison escape Sunday, ABC News reported.

Armed men on the helicopter fired more than 500 bullets at guards and lowered a rope to help a convicted killer make his escape. It was the con’s fourth attempted escape from the Trikala prison.

The daring helicopter prison escape attempt was foiled after the would-be escaped prisoner was shot. The chopper was forced to land in the prison’s parking lot.

Greek authorities say there have been a handful of other helicopter prison escape attempts recently that has succeeded. This was the first time such an escape has failed.

Four people were in the helicopter that attempted the prison escape Sunday. They first tried to tear down the chicken-wire fence surrounding the Greek prison using a hook dangling from a rope. That didn’t work, so they lowered a rope directly to prisoner Panagiotis Vlastos.

The people on the chopper started shooting at the guards, firing more than 500 shots. Raw video posted on the left shows the suspect helicopter in the prison parking lot.

One guard was slightly injured by flying glass. The guards returned fire wounding Vlastos and someone in the helicopter. Vlastos fell about three feet into the prison courtyard. The guards were able to bring the chopper down to the prison parking lot.

Neither Vlastos nor the man that was helping him escape in the helicopter was seriously injured.
