This week Gregory Smith, a gunman in Indianapolis spent ten minutes on his knees praying with a clerk at a check cashing business before leaving and robbing the clerk. He took her cell phone and $20 from the register.
The security video (see below) from the branch showed the incident and then showed the man's face during the stickup, and Smith's mother recognized him and talked him into surrendering on Tuesday on a preliminary charge of robbery.
The cashier was upset, crying and praying so the gunman went behind the counter. He told her that he had a 2-year-old child to support and he needed the money desperately and asked her to pray for him. He also told her that he had been in the military and had tried and tried to find a job to no avail.
Oprah will have Gregory Smith, 23 on her show today to talk to him about the experience.
Last week, a gunman in Utah was suspected of robbing two gas stations in the Holiday area. A suspect has not been arrested, ABC4 reported.
