Video: GOP hypocrisy over Obama school speech continues

The Obama school address gets undue scrutiny.  AP Photo Ron Edmonds

The interview below between the head of the GOP in Florida, Jim Greer and Anderson Cooper demonstrates just how partisan the Obama school speech story has become.  In the interview the GOP official shows a complete unwillingness to reason in regards to the future Obama address.

Cooper first asks Greer about his own quote in which he alleged that the Obama speech would talk about such issues as health care reform, banks, and taxes.  Again and again Greer is asked for any evidence he has that the President's speech would address such subjects.  Greer points to the lesson plans accompanying the speech but even the original lesson plans, which have now been revised, did not in anyway address these policy issues.

The truth is Greer like many, but not all, Republicans is simply trying to score cheap political points by attacking the President with no evidence.  Republicans have legitimate concerns about the lack of job growth, the rising debt, and even health care reform.  I support those Republicans who reasonably oppose the President on these issues even if I do disagree with their viewpoints.  Greer's points on the other hand are not real concerns about policy but instead an attempt to attack the President through whatever means possible.  I believe if the President was helping an old lady cross the street Greer would accuse him of taking her to a death panel.

Most revealing though is Greer approval of an address to student by President Bush while simultaneously condemning President Obama.  Greer claims his concern is with the President addressing policy issues with children, yet when he is shown a clip by President Bush in which Bush directly advocates a policy issue with children Greer is unwilling to criticize Bush.  So the lesson is obvious.  Whenever a Democrat addresses student, even with a non-partisan message, this is unacceptable to Greer.  However whenever a Republican addresses students in a partisan manner this is a "great leader" talking to the children.

How I can help the president? should have been
How can I help myself by staying in school!

I would agree that almost every question was one way to agree with Obama without room to think and give an answer in the other direction IF they do not agree with Obama or his Ideas and such.
Even make poster with favorite quotes of Obama.
Come on! what will a kid get if he/she chooses
    1. Bring home the troops?
    2. No more ear marks?
    3. No closed door deals?
    4. or the surmmon on the mount by Jesus is so radical?

The Original questions all were focus in the direction to only agree with Obama.

Obama should have just given his speech, and let the DOE ask the questions and thoughts in class.

I hate to break it to you, but the menu of activities is optional. And, teachers, being the educated, experienced professionals that they are, will pick and choose and modify those activities as appropriate. There is nothing wrong with the President of the United States speaking to our nation's school children about the importance of education.

ßaråq ? Übumü, The African Prince

America! The Kenyan Prince will speak to your children. There is hope and change in the new tomorrow, do not be afraid of this prince! Relax, take a deep breath. Do you think the prince could have attained such renown without the assistance of a higher power? Do you doubt that your children have already been given into His hand? Don't you see that the wealthiest men of your age (Rockefeller, Soros, Buffet, Gates, Ford, Carnegie) have already given Him their power? Don't listen to the lies from Americans about His politics (communist, socialist, fascist), all of this will end soon when the lying liars have been silenced for good.

Then, the huddled masses will breathe free, with green jobs and clean water ( from his soul) to power the next generation. Don't look for the birth certificate. He whom has been here from the beginning has already been certified. All of this will belong to him soon and He wants you to be a part of it! When the day is com

To make matters even worse, Greer himself reportedly goes to grade schools & gives unvetted speeches which are screamingly partisan -- telling "Hillary jokes" & explaining why Republicans are better than Democrats -- Republicans get up & go to work; Democrats just go to the mailbox to pick up their checks. Ha ha ha. To schoolkids!

I think this issue is getting overblown. First thing, many seem to forget "child psychology." If my daughter was subjected to such an argument of who gets to see the speech and who doesn't, it would arouse her curiousity to the point that if I said she could not watch it, she would find a way to see it just because she'd feel she was missing something potentially major. Okay. I have raised my daughter to think for herself after considering all the pros and cons and opinions (albeit heated ones) and draw her own conclusion. She and I do not agree on many things, but part of the education process and part of becoming a fully-functioning adult has to do with thinking for yourself. So I'd say, sure, honey, go watch it if you like. That's up to you. I will sign papers you need. Then, tell me what it was about and what you and the other kids think. THAT is how to raise a kid to think for themselves. To control what they see will only undermine your relationship with your child.

I wonder why Ryan deletes comments that prove beyond question that he conveniently leaves out facts and is pushing a very far-left agenda? He only leaves dissenting comments such as the one by Fred that make the opposition appear to be racist lunatics.

Ryan is ashamed of his homosexuality. But he wants the gay agenda to be taught in schools. He wants our children to be forcefully taught that the gay lifestyle is actually a better alternative than a traditional heterosexual lifestyle. He sees homosexuals as more intellecually enlightened. He wants our children taugh that if their parents try to instill religious and spiritual values in them that are in opposition to his beliefs that their parents are bigots. He always deletes comments about that too. This one won't be here long.

Hypocrisy? When Bush the first gave his speech at school, the left was up in arms. they accused Bush of using the kids as "props" and even opened a Congressional hearing into the speech. The Secretary of Education was called to testify before Congress. Hypocrisy? Ryan, you are a lemming. You wouldn't know a fact if it slapped you square in the face. You represent everything that is wrong with the left and the narrow-minded selfishness they wish to force on us all. You might try thinking for yourself sometime. It's good for you.
