By all records June was a horrible ratings month for Glenn Beck, and he seems to have responded in July by ratcheting up the tone of his rhetoric. As the video clips below illustrate, Beck is now focusing on stories about the new Black Panthers and a supposed future race war. While the country deals with high unemployment, the Gulf oil spill, and two wars Beck has decided to emphasize a story about two African-Americans outside a polling station in 2008.
The new Black Panthers were a relatively obscure organization until Beck and Fox News significantly increased their profile in the last month. At the heart of the controversy is a video showing two African-Americans standing outside a polling place during the 2008 presidential election. One of the men is carrying a nightstick. Conservatives, Beck leading the charge, have claimed the men represent a nationwide effort to intimidate white voters. They also claim the Obama administration is complicit in the effort.
Contrary to conservative claims, the charges against both men were not entirely dropped by the Obama administration. Conservatives also neglect to mention the fact that no voter complaints were made about the two men. Beck has compared the new Black Panthers reach to that of the KKK after the Civil War. However, the organization is actually very small, and relatively powerless. Hardly anyone knows about the new Black Panthers, as opposed to the KKK, which effectively ran many Southern state governments post-Civil War, and Beck has produced no direct link between the organization and any government structure. Instead, Beck conspiracy is built mostly on a political version of "six degrees of Kevin Bacon."
Despite the scant evidence supporting his theory, in the video clips below Beck warns his audience of an "army" from the "extreme left" which is preparing to "kill the cops." Later Beck would tell his audience the left "wants a race war" and that the President will "stand by and let them do it." Throughout the past few days, Beck has also been referring to hate speech of one new Black Panthers member who claimed he wanted to kill white babies. Beck claims this language is a "portal inside the mind of some that advice the President." For an explanation of the tortured, twisted, extenuated logic Beck uses to try and connect the new Black Panthers to the Obama administration click here.
Despite the focus on race and a coming race war Beck later claims that he is not really talking about race. It is worth noting that Beck actually made his high mark in television ratings after calling President Obama a "racist" with a "deep-seeded hatred of white people." Beck was routinely gaining a 3 million person audience following that controversy. Last June, Beck's ratings fell dramatically. At one point Beck drew only 1.39 million viewers (very good numbers for anyone else but a drop of more than 50% for Beck). Now, in July, Beck seems to be turning once more to race and a conspiracy involving the President's supposed vendetta against white people. Is Beck's sudden return to themes race and violence coincidence? It is possible, but the cynics may accuse Beck of going back to the well that helped him rise to his ratings summit.

"Glenn Beck's rhetoric grows increasingly racial, militaristic after low ratings month"
How ironic that Mr. Beck is following Obama's lead after Obama's low ratings.
Ryan what is it about patriotic truth bugs you so much? I think the bright light bothers you, I understand. Now run back under the refrigerator and write tomorrow's propaganda for your blog.
You are my favorite propagandist, your so obvious Comrade Witt it always makes me laugh. I'm most interested what you'll have to say in November LOL. See ya tomorrow!
Watchdogs assemble!!! I have personally crafted a 2 minute video called "Maybe a dingo ate your cracker baby!"
Hey look, Glenn is not picky about content as long as it is related to the issue, so I really hope he uses this to his advantage and that it further exposes the massive underground Communist Anarchist army that is poised and ready to march on Main Street.
Hi Ryan says "Ryan what is it about patriotic truth bugs you so much?"
Patriotic Truth.
Now that is a funny!
It's a joke right? Please tell me it's a joke!
Hey Ryan,
My dear fellow, you've got some serious historical, logical, and empirical flaws in your article and your argumentation.
1. You mention the KKK, but do NOT mention that the Klan was the creation of the Democrat Party and those state governments you mention were Democrat Party state governments.
Why did you fail to mention this obvious and blatant historical fact for your readers to understand and digest?
2. The fact that the 'New' Black Panther Party is, according to your words, small and powerless, has nothing whatsoever to do with the validity of Beck's accusation of their racist vitriol or their racist and violent intent and goals.
3. Since the Obama Administration has Eric Holder harassing, persecuting, and suing the state of AZ for a law which MIRRORS the existing federal law (but with the added protection of Probable Cause), and Obama stating that he will NOT enforce border security, how is that NOT a racist act against the majority of Americans?
What utter crap this piece is. All we need to see if that you use media matters as your source and we know what you are about.
Hey Ryan Witt(less) -- please tell me where you teach so i can make sure not to send my kids there. What a bunch of lefty crap! You are even more stupid than your dopey looking picture.
Haha. The government dropped all criminal charges, but kept one minor civil charge against one of the Panthers. And there was no punishment, other than agreeing not to revisit that particular poll. Haha, some penalty. If the Klan were stationed outside a poll TODAY -- sad, pathetic organization that it is -- and spewed threats against black or latino voters, would you agree to such a penalty for the white-hooded bigot? If not, you are a hypocrite.
Ryan Witt, where did you get your law school degree, the University of Venezuela, or Cuba? You are one stupid, lefty, Obamazombie!
The more Beck speaks the truth, the more cockroaches like Ryan Witt come out of the woodwork to fight for their supreme leader -- Hussain Obama.
It's really strange the NBPP is allowed to speak and invited on all the shows... but the Klan had best say nothing after all they are racist.
Wow! I see this page is infested by Republitards! LOL!
Dare to disagree, dare to say that's unfair, and you are called Republican, (the new politically correct name for a racist cracker). Marginalizing is decietful propaganda, remember Alinsky's rules?
Rule 1: Power is not only what you have, but what an opponent thinks you have. If your organization is small, hide your numbers in the dark and raise a din that will make everyone think you have many more people than you do.
Rule 2: Never go outside the experience of your people. The result is confusion, fear, and retreat.
Rule 3: Whenever possible, go outside the experience of your opponent. Here you want to cause confusion, fear, and retreat.
Rule 4: Make opponents live up to their own book of rules. You can kill them with this, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity.
Rule 5: Ridicule is mans most potent weapon. Its hard to counterattack ridicule, and it infuriates the opposition, which then reacts to your advantage.
Some perspective - Limbaugh's radio audience is estimated at 14 million, Michael Savage around 8 million, Dr. Laura at 5 million. Howard Stern, since he moved to Sirius/XM sat radio gets around 5 million. NPR gets about 20-26 million listeners; "American Idol" has 18-30 million viewers. According to the article you linked, Beck gets 1.4 to 3 million viewers, so I have to ask why the media doesn't discuss the relatively small size of his audience.
Rule 6: A good tactic is one your people enjoy. If your people arent having a ball doing it, there is something very wrong with the tactic.
Rule 7: A tactic that drags on for too long becomes a drag. Commitment may become ritualistic as people turn to other issues.
Rule 8: Keep the pressure on. Use different tactics and actions and use all events of the period for your purpose. The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition. It is this that will cause the opposition to react to your advantage.
Rule 9: The threat is more terrifying than the thing itself. When Alinsky leaked word that large numbers of poor people were going to tie up the washrooms of OHare Airport, Chicago city authorities quickly agreed to act on a longstanding commitment to a ghetto organization. They imagined the mayhem as thousands of passengers poured off airplanes to discover every washroom occupied. Then they imagined the intern
The bigger question is why you haven't spoken about the artrosities of the new black panthers yourself. Blacks don't get a free pass for racism.
international embarrassment and the damage to the citys reputation.
Rule 10: The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative. Avoid being trapped by an opponent or an interviewer who says, Okay, what would you do?
Rule 11: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, polarize it. Dont try to attack abstract corporations or bureaucracies. Identify a responsible individual. Ignore attempts to shift or spread the blame.
Alinsky continues by stating several rules of the ethics of means and ends:
The judgment of the ethics of means is dependent upon the political position of those sitting in judgment.
In war, the end justifies almost any means.
Judgment must be made in the context of the times in which the action occurred and not from any other chronological vantage point.
Concern with ethics increases with the number of means available and vice versa.
The less important the end to be desired, the more one can afford to engage in ethical evaluations of means
Watchdogs assemble! It looks like most of the Glenn Beck Watchdogs have assembled here today. Travis, Shrink the State, Dan F, Ed, Junior Bailey you guys are making Glenn proud this evening. And it's like Glenn said just last friday, "President Obama is working with the devil." , so your help here is very important.
Say fellas, Glenn told me to ask you all a favor. You are to wear the PajamaJeans to the big rally in DC so we will be able to pick each other out in the crowd. That's all for now.
I love it when people copy and paste Saul Alinsky's rules for Radicals. Travis why would you do that?
That was a trick question Travis. I apologize, you see I'm a third degree black belt in the Saul Alinsky internet posting martial arts and at times I forget my own power.
Completely ignore that last post. No seriously, don't give it another thought.
Yes Glenn keep stoking the fears of un-educated white people in the country and you'll be sure to help create the next Timothy McVeigh. Just like when the right put out just as much 'coming to get yer freedoms' crap when Clinton was in office. Make your millions and then deny any responsibility in this when the next Oklahoma bomber strikes....
and Why does Glenn STILL ignore the fact the BUSH DOJ found no voters with complaints and GW was IN CHARGE when there when it was decided there wasn't enough evidence? Why won't he give his clueless followers that small tidbit of information? You have to ask the question - WHY?
So, Beck's rhetoric basically boils down to: "There are radical black groups out there who want to get you, Obama is black - Obama is out to get you!! boo!"
This guy is getting scary and dangerous. I worry about the crazy folks who listen to and watch him. I worry there are people out there who are believing this false reality Beck (and Fox News) have created and will act on it because they got to "take the country back!" from those "radical!!". Shesh.
I posted the Alinsky rules for those who do not understand the agenda of the Obama administration, when you know how you are being manipulated it is easier to understand what is happening.
watchdog #134,456, if you had clue who I really am you would swallow your tongue.
It appears that here at least another tried and true tactic is at work, justifying bad behavior by pointing out that which can be seen as worse.
Allen why do you resist the "Patriotic Truth" as told by Glenn Beck?
"watchdog #134,456, if you had clue who I really am you would swallow your tongue."
Let's see, I'm trying to think if there is anyone alive that would have that effect on me. No, sorry.
But don't worry, I still think you are one of the best Glenn Beck watchdogs on this particular site!
Travis!!! Please tell us who you are! Just a hint. please!
and Why does Glenn STILL ignore the fact the BUSH DOJ found no voters with complaints and GW was IN CHARGE when there when it was decided there wasn't enough evidence? Why won't he give his clueless followers that small tidbit of information? You have to ask the question - WHY?
The 'tortured, twisted, extenuated logic belongs to Witt for claiming that 'the charges were not "entirely" dropped, when the punishment for the guy with the club was 'not to do it again until 2012'!
And that 'no voter complaints were made', but Witt failed to mention that an affidavit was filed by a 'lib' campaign manager for Robert Kennedy 'Bartle Bull' who said it was the most blatant act of voter intimidation he'd ever seen.
Witt also failed to mention that the video of the guy saying he hates white people and wants to kill white babies is the same guy with the nightstick that was intimidating Philiadelphia voters, King Samir Shabazz. The guy the administration left unpunished.
The sick and twisted effort to paint Beck as a racist and an opportunish, while overlooking such disgusting acts of racial threats and intimidation is very odd.
Gigi, that's why Glenn Starts every show with. "Hello you sick twisted Freaks!"
Frumpy,
Did you read my post, or at least have someone read it to you????
John says:
and Why does Glenn STILL ignore the fact the BUSH DOJ found no voters with complaints
The standard in the law does not require someone to come forward. Thus the INTIMIDATION!! DUH!!!!
When I see Beck outside a polling place on 11-2-2010 in black para military gear and a nightstick calling blacks naggars and you will be the slaves again, then your headline may be relevant. Now it is ludicrous babble.
Travis says:
"...watchdog #134,456, if you had clue who I really am you would swallow your tongue...."
lol, I doubt it...the ratings rants you've done previously (before the ratings drop) sort of hints at your identity.
"Glenn Beck's rhetoric grows increasingly racial, militaristic after low ratings month"
I find it very ironic that Mr. Beck has chosen to follow Obama's example of attitude after Obama's low ratings.
So the republican poll watchers are there with their camera filming the New Black Panthers standing in front of their neighborhood polling place yet failed to get footage of them blocking the door and screaming threats? On a related note, has FOX yet reported that multiple independent investigations of the Climategate and ACORN scandals have shown no wrong-doing by the accused? Yellow journalism at its finest.
There needs to be more racial dialogue, Eric Holder said this, and now he's totally turning away from this. It's pretty sad when one uses race to advance their own platform.
Marilyn,
You bring to mind the old saying 'There is none so blind as he who will not see'. These incidences are on videos that we can see and emails that we can read for ourselves. We don't need anyone to tell us that what we see is not real.
Though the lamestream media wants us to believe that because a black congressman 'said' Tea Partiers called him a bad name, it has to be true. Thousands of cameras were poised to catch such a shot, and yet we have no video.
You believe whatever you want, but as for me; I'll believe my own eyes.
So, Gigi, you are a truther?
@ John:
You claim the charges filed against The New Black Panthers
GW was IN CHARGE when there when it was decided there wasn't enough evidence?
Im not sure where you get that information from but is blatantly incorrect sir.
It was in April of 2009 under Eric Holder that the DOJ won the case due to the defendants ignoring the charges. Nearly a month later on May 15th 2009, while awaiting the sentencing / injunction stage, all charges where dropped against all but King Samir Shabazz. The initial injunction said that King Samir Shabazz was not to attend polling places ever again. It was later reduced to until 2012. These are facts. Not race baiting rhetoric.
Why the Bush DOJ didnt pursue this futher, that is a good question. My guess is that it wasnt properly pursued. There is certainly video of an individual that felt a need to call police because he felt intimidated. Im betting there was a report filed over that.
@ marilyn
It wasnt a republican poll watcher. It was a citizen filming it with a cell phone. You may think that makes him a crazy person but I refer you to the recent incident in Washington State. After the officer punched the girl in the face, what is everybody doing? The major complaint, came from a poll watcher who provided an affidavit to prosecutors in the case noted that Bartle Bull, who worked as a civil rights lawyer in the south in the 1960's and is a former campaign manager for Robert Kennedy, said it was the most blatant form of voter intimidation he had ever seen.
In his affidavit, Bull wrote "I watched the two uniformed men confront voters and attempt to intimidate voters. They were positioned in a location that forced every voter to pass in close proximity to them. The weapon was openly displayed and brandished in plain sight of voters."
He also said they tried to "interfere with the work of other poll observers ... whom the uniformed men app
Bartle Bull also said they tried to "interfere with the work of other poll observers ... whom the uniformed men apparently believed did not share their preferences politically," noting that one of the panthers turned toward the white poll observers and said "you are about to be ruled by the black man, cracker."
My Bad forgot the word count)
Brad, a citizen with a cell phone? Is that the new euphemism for Young Republicans? The Bush DOJ didn't pursue this because there was no evidence of voter intimidation. Remember the Bush DOJ? Purged of career lawyers for political hacks, for partisan gain. Do the names Kyle Sampson, Tim Griffin, Hans von Spakovsky ring any bells? Monica Goodling? Bradley Schlozman? Don't forget those 150 Regent (Pat Robertson U.) graduates burrowed in.
Please join my Shut Up, Glenn Beck facebook page if you would like to take a stance against Glenn Becks right wing rhetoric. Please feel free to post vids, pics n comments exposing Glenn Beck for the fraud he is.
That clown is a sad excuse for a human being...absolutely no redeeming qualities; would have made a fantastic Minister of Propaganda in Nazi Germany...
