Video games past and present

When I was young, I spent a lot of times playing video games.  I spent a great amount of time (and money) at the arcades playing games such as Pac-Man, Star Wars, Galaga and many others.  I also spent a great amount of time at home playing video games on a Atari 5200 and an Apple IIe computer.

During these days, I remember wanting two things.  First, I always looked forward to the home versions of my favorite arcade video games.  Second, I wished there was a way to play the actual arcade games at home.

I got my first wish as many arcade favorites were eventually converted to many systems including my Atari 5200 and Apple IIe (and other systems).  Unfortunately, due to the technology at the time, the graphics and sounds of the home versions were not as good as the arcade originals.  Unfortunately, the second wish was a little more difficult.  Short of buying the actual machine, there was not a way to play the original arcade games at your home.

However, as technology has advanced from the 1980's until today, the ability to play the original arcade games on your computer has appeared in the form of emulators.  Emulators for old systems such as the Atari 5200 and the Apple IIe (among many others) are also available as well.

As we go along,  I plan discuss some of my favorite games as well as the various ways that people can enjoy the games they enjoyed back in the 1980'ss and 1990's
