Video games continue to be the most popular, and highest earning, Kickstarter category says the crowd-sourcing website’s 2013 year-in-review feature, according to a report today from GameSpot.

Since the website’s inception in 2008, Kickstarter projects have raised $202 million in pledges to create video games, eclipsing the nearest competitor –– Film and Video –– by more than $10 million.

Gaming project, however, had a success rate of just more than 35 percent. Only Technology (34.82 percent), Publishing (32.45 percent), and Fashion (29.58 percent) had lower success rates.

The video game success stories touted in the presentation –– which you can watch by clicking here –– include the Oculus Rift virtual reality head set and the launch of the Ouya.

In mid-December Examiner reported that 21.79 percent of the company’s $920 million in pledges to date went to video games.

Last year alone 7,922 video game projects launched on Kickstarter.
