Oscar nominated actress and star of the film 'Precious' Gabourey Sidibe opened up to the ladies of The View in an extensive interview during Wednesday morning's broadcast.
Gabourey Sidibe told The View crew that she's still trying to digest the reality of Tuesday morning's Oscar nomination. "I cut class and I went to an audition and now I'm an Oscar nominee. On one credit. How crazy is this world."
Sidibe said that one of the reasons director Lee Daniels chose her for the lead role in 'Precious' was the fact that her own life in no way resembled that of the main character. Sidibe said that Daniels felt it would be "exploitive" to use an actress who had experienced the same abuse and trauma as Precious.
Barbara Walters was careful to point out to The View viewers that 'Precious' was not the story of Gabourey Sidibe's life. "Precious is not you," stated Barbara Walters, asking for validation.
Sidibe replied: "No, but I've known Precious through a lot of different people in my life."
Sidibe had no acting experience before her role in 'Precious,' but is now in the throes of planning her first Academy Awards red carpet run. So far, her plans include inviting her mother to be her escort and wearing "a dress".
The View co-host Sherri Shepherd also had a role in the film.

Funny that Lee Daniels is concerned about exploitation. The book Push is one big exploitation. Sapphire culled secrets from her clients and used them for personal gain. Morally reprehensible.
