Colleen LaRose aka Jihad Jane is a Pennsylvania woman who was arrested in October for plotting to kill a Swedish cartoonist; the FBI released the federal indictment Wednesday. LaRose, 46, put a notice online that she was desperate to help the muslim people. Shortly afterwards, she began communicating with “Islamic radicals” in Asia, Europe and the US.
Wednesday, Good Morning America spoke to former White House counterterrorism official Richard Clark who said, “This woman might as well have advertised in the Washington Post. It was easy for the FBI to find her but there are other people who are much more covert.”
"There will likely be more attacks," Clarke said. "Hopefully, they will be small and hopefully we can catch them early."
A Swedish cartoonist made fun of Muslim prophet Mohammed by putting his head on the body of a dog in a cartoon. LaRose was angered by the cartoon and vowed to kill the cartoonist if it was the last thing she did.
LaRose’s neighbors are shocked that one of their neighbors who appears to be a normal American citizen may have been an Islamic radical.
"Oh, my God, unbelievable, I can't believe that," one of her neighbors told ABC News.
Another neighbor said the news was an "amazing, shocking surprise."
Many people are shocked by this story because she was a US citizen and because even her neighbors had no idea who she really was. This story leaves people wondering about their neighbors and what they might be up to. See the video below to see what her neighbors had to say.
In a related case, Sulejman Talovic shot nine people at the Trolley Square mall in Salt Lake City in 2007 and was killed himself has been rumored to be an Islamic radical. Jerry Falwell, a religious leader in the US made the statement that Talovic was a “radical Islamic terrorist," and then added, "but the press never mentions that -- most of the press -- because they are trying to keep Islam in a good light here in this country."
