“Scandal” star Dan Bucatinsky is one happy guy. Fresh off an Emmy win this past weekend in the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama category, the actor chatted with Classic TV Examiner about his role on the breakout show at the Primetime Emmys reception celebrating diversity in television. “Scandal” is one of the few dramas on television that features actors of color in major roles, headlined by the series star, Kerry Washington, who plays always in demand Washington D. C. attorney, Olivia Pope.
Bucatinsky plays reporter James Novak, whose relationship with his White House Chief of Staff husband, Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry) breaks barriers in every home, including "The White House.”
The actor is proud of the show which has taken off in its sophomore season and looks forward to season three which kicks off on Thursday, October, 3rd. "We were up for the two [Creative Emmys] and I'm so proud of the show and lucky to be working with Shonda (Rhimes), Mark Wilding and Jenna Bans and Tom Verica, all the amazing writers on that show,” Bucatinsky said backstage at The Creative Emmys after his win. “And the cast, we are a very tight knit group, including the long list of recurring guest stars on the show. It really truly is like a family, must to the disgust of many other people who work on the shows. We really are very “Kumbaya” in a way… I feel like I'm winning this honor for all of us.”
As the third season of "Scandal" begins, the fact that Olivia’s name is surfacing as President Grant’s (Tony Goldwyn) mistress will be the biggest scandal to date for the White House and Pope & Associates. In a surprise move, an "allegiance” will be formed “in order to get things handled.” Olivia's father, Rowan (Joe Morton), is also in the mix. He will stop at nothing to carry out his orders and no one, including Olivia, can stand in his way.
