David Letterman, Jay Leno and Oprah appear in Super Bowl commercial together. During the Super Bowl Sunday night, one of the commercials featured Jay Leno, David Letterman and Oprah Winfrey. In a short 15-second clip, the three talk show hosts sit on a couch in front of a TV watching the super bowl and Letterman is bored and Oprah plays the referee between the two.
The commercial was Letterman’s idea and it was shot last Tuesday in New York at Letterman’s Ed Sullivan Theater. They kept the commercial quiet and Leno was reported to have flown to NYC in disguise so no one knew he was there. The commercial promoted the Dave Letterman show.
Letterman complains that this is "the worst Super Bowl party ever," and Winfrey who is sitting between the two tells him to "be nice." Leno then responds, "Aw, he's just sayin' that because I'm here!" And then Letterman mimics him.
After the NBC battle between Conan O’Brien and Jay Leno over the Tonight Show and late night TV, Letterman voiced his own opinion during that time making the problem slightly worse. This appeared to be a way to attempt to fix or mask the problem and just move on. See the video below.
The Tonight Show airs nationwide at 11:35 pm on week nights. In Utah, the family oriented state, the Tonight Show has always aired earlier at 10:35 pm. The Jay Leno show aired at 10 pm nationwide, but at 9 pm in Utah. After the Olympic games, the Tonight Show will return March 1 with Jay Leno hosting.
