Tareq and Michaele Salahi, a Virginia couple has been accused of crashing President Obama’s first White House state dinner on Tuesday. After a search of court records, the couple has been involved in at least 16 civil suits over the past few years, in some cases they are defendants and in some they are plaintiffs, CNN reported, and some of the cases are bankruptcy filings.
The couple posted photos on their Facebook page after the White House state dinner showing that they were indeed at the dinner. Another Facebook page shows the couple attending several events around Washington DC, and portrays the couple as high rollers. The couple was also under consideration to be in the Real Housewives of DC reality TV show on Bravo.
After many questions arose, the couple made a statement through a spokesperson that they did have approval to attend the dinner, and they look forward to clearing this up. The video below shows the couple being announced at the White House dinner party.
A reporter is the one who broke the story when she noticed when the couple was announced at the entrance to the dinner that the couple was not on the official White House list. To see the official White House state dinner list, click here.
The Secret Service stated that one of the checkpoints did not follow proper procedures. The incident does raise questions. If the couple did indeed breach security, how did they do it? What knowledge did they have about White House security? Did someone at the White House let them in? If they broke security on their own then charges will certainly follow.
