Video: BYU vs New Mexico girls soccer fight raises questions

In a Thursday night BYU vs New Mexico girls soccer game, several of the players got physical with each other in an all out battle for the win. In several of the shots that appear in the video below, Elizabeth Lambert from New Mexico is trying to physically hurt the BYU players.

Lambert kicks balls into a BYU players’ face at close range, hair pulls that yank the head and neck and bring the BYU player’s to the ground, and straight out punches in the back.  See video below.

Lambert was carded for kicking the ball into a BYU players’ face at close range. Where is the line and at what point does Lambert cross it?  What exactly does she need to do to get suspended?

Brigham Young University, by the way, won the game 1-0.

UPDATE: Lambert has been suspended from the New Mexico women's soccer team, click here for more information.

UPDATE:  The Rhode Island High School girls soccer team got into an all team fight on Sunday night, which ended with one player dragging another player across the field by her hair.  To read about that story, and to view a video of the fight, click here.

Is the ref's blind, number 15 deserved 4 yellow and at least one red card of what the video show, thats 3 red cards in the same game, that's insane, where did they found the ref's, in New Mexico??

  • Sue 2 years ago

Number 15 should've been red carded after the first foul she commited, things like that happen all the time even in varsity girls high school soccer.

That is disgusting. Not only should Elizabeth Lambert get kicked off the team, she should be suspended, and perhaps arrested. When she punched that last girl in the vido in the nexk, does she not know she could kill someone? Does she care? What the hell is wrong with our society that this kind of thing is taught to girls or boys? SICK!

If that were my daughter, I would be very ashamed.

I agree with Karlberg... where are the refs? It's the black and white that's the problem here... they are responsible for the safety of the players... maybe we should be examining the referees...

I agree with Karlberg too, but it's also rediculas for players to do that crap! REALLY?!?! Where have the parents gone too? Sure their college, but if they would have been raised right this wouldn't happen. Our parents are not parenting, simply put. It's a very sad time we live in. If my child ever did anything like that, they wouldn't be able to sit for a week! (As my mother use to say....and it's just a figure of speech.) What a disgrace. She shouldn't be able to play any sports anywhere ever again.

Wow-have any of you really looked at the video of not only the 2nd half but first half of that game! Can you say sexual harrassment! During the first half the byu sexually repressed girls were grabbing Elizabeth lamberts crotch and other body parts every chance they got - whenever they thought the cameras werent looking. I imagine by the 2nd half she had had enough. If you look carefully at the video(thats been played over & over in the media)right before she grabs the ponytail of a sexual predator, you will notice said predator starting to put her hand up her shorts! What the hell do they teach those girls at byu!Think people - why would Elizabeth lambert all of sudden go ballistic in the 2nd half? Karlberg I agree w/you - are the refs blind - they must be from Utah.

OK, People....first of all most of you posting comments need to use spell check before you post! Nothing makes you look more ridiculous than poor spelling (no matter what your point of view)
Next, several of the viewpoints expressed refer to incidents that were not caught on tape. Grow up! Lambert should be ejected from the game and should have been the first time she crossed the line. If (and it's a BIG if) the BYU team was doing the same thing their players should be ejected also. The reason this kind of behavior goes on is because no one steps in to stop it. And it starts at a very young age. Parents who encourage their children to win at any cost are the real culprits and the results of that encouragement are played out on our TV screens and Athletic Fields every day.

No "BIG if's" about it. It most difinitely happened. It's called sexual harrassment, and IT IS against the law! Absolutely disgusting!!! Personally I would be in prison for putting one of those PERVERTS 6 foot under! I also have a STRONG feeling the girls of byu planned thier sexual attack before the game. While I can only imagine the hell Lambert is going through in her life right now, I believe what you do in this life will eventually come back at you seven-fold,those girls will someday pay for thier indescretions - its called karma. As for why Lambert didn't say anything - besides the disgust and humiliation of being sexually accosted by a bunch of mormon women - take a look at whats being said and written in the media and blogs as you read this. How much worse would it be for her if the truth came out! Shame on byu and shame on the unm coach for not sticking up for one of her girls.

i think that the girl should have been fouled and the other players should have fought back i mean if that was me and a girl would have pulled my head i would have stright out punched the gril cuz no one hurts me and gets away with it

    one word... LOOSERS!!!

Something must have been mentally wrong with her. That was extreme unsportsmanlike conduct, and such actions should be dealt with harshly. She needs Anger Management!!! I feel sorry for that lady whose ponytail was pulled on.
