Brian Kelly, new Notre Dame Coach press conference (video). Brian Kelly has been named the new Notre Dame Football coach and will start Monday. At a press conference Friday, Brian Kelly said that he had his dream job. Brian Kelly, the former Cincinnati coach, said that he knows there is a challenge at Notre Dame and he is ready for it. Kelly signed a 5 year contract with Notre Dame.

For Brian Kelly, the hard part comes and he will have to figure out how to turn N0tre Dame around. Notre Dame hasn’t won a title in 21 years.

"When I refer to the challenge, it's strictly getting to that high bar that's been set at Notre Dame," said Kelly, 47. "We've got challenges, but we'll go to work on those right away."

We don't get a five-year plan. This is a five-minute plan," he said. "We expect our football players to play at a high level immediately. Timetables, we don't want to get into those -- those are a setup."

There was some gossip of possible Charlie Weis replacements with Florida's Urban Meyer (Utah Utes coach from 2003-2004) and Oklahoma's Bob Stoops, but both have stated they are not leaving their current contracts. Other rumors were Stanford's Jim Harbaugh, or TCU's Gary Patterson.

Notre Dame athletic director, Jack Swarbrick said that Kelly is the only candidate he spoke to and the only one he offered the job to.

Charlie Weis, the former coach was let go two weeks ago; and had six years left on his Notre Dame contract. For more on that story, click here.

Kelly met with the Notre Dame team for 25 minutes on Friday, and said that he didn’t have any firm impressions of the team built by Charlie Weis, except for watching some video of a game from earlier this season.

"It's not just about getting bigger, stronger, faster," he said. "It's getting your players to trust, to be accountable on a daily basis, it's about developing them as young men. ... To get people to do things that they would not normally do on their own."
