April 15, 2010 is tax day for 2009 and this brings anxiety and the search for an extension form. Thursday, April 15, 2010 is the last day that taxes are due for 2009 in the United States. If you have not filed your 2009 taxes and have not prepared to file taxes, then a tax extension form must be filed with the IRS and the form must be post dated by Thursday, April 15, 2010 or a penalty will be charged.
IRS form 4868 (see link below) is the extension form and will allow an additional six months to file income taxes for the 2009 tax year. This is the form used whether you owe money or expect a refund. If you would like to include payment toward your taxes, that can be sent with the 4868 form.
These last few days before tax day are the worst to call the IRS for questions and hold times are long. The IRS website link is below. There is also a short video below to explain how to file the form.
