Video: Alex Preston talks game change twist and performing on 'American Idol'

"American Idol" did something that has never been done on any of the show's twelve seasons.

The show had a game changing decision used of the show for the first time ever. The contestants had two choices: They could all vote yes to keep the entire group together for an additional week, which would have two contestants eliminated on next week's results show.

The second was if anyone voted no, then the contestant with the lowest amount of votes would be sent home.

After the final commercial break, host Ryan Seacrest announced the results. First three votes were yes, and the final two were no. It was then announced that the person with the lowest amount would be going home which ended up being Sam Woolf. Woolf performed 2 songs on the Viewer's Choice episode on the performance show on Wednesday night.

LA Music Examiner spoke with finalist Alex Preston right after Thursday's elimination show.

"American Idol" airs Wednesdays and Thursdays on Fox. Next week on the show the theme will be Love: “Break Up To Make Up". Each finalists will sing 2 songs.

The Top 4 finalists are Jena Irene, Caleb Johnson, Jessica Meuse, Alex Preston.
