Egypt is suspending Luxor balloon flights after a crash left 19 dead, the BBC reported.
Governor of Luxor, Ezzat Saad, told the BBC, "I would like to offer my condolences"
Investigators believe a landing rope severed a helium gas tube after getting caught around it. A fire broke out, shooting the balloon up in the air.
The balloon then plunged about 1,000 feet to the ground west of the city of Luxor.
The travel company that organized the hot air balloon ride told France 24: 'I saw a fire in the balloon’s basket. Due to the fire, the balloon lost [altitude]. It was out of control.
'It jerked up and dropped down again 30 metres. There were some people jumping from the balloon and falling into the sugar cane fields before it crashed."
Only two survived, the pilot and passenger. They were able to jump out of the basket.
