Victrix Gale (11-4 betting odds) blew away the competition in an impressive jump competition at the Galway Plate Trial Handicap Chase at Limerick. Tony Martin's bottom-weight mare finished a hat-trick after a win over fences at this course and over hurdles at Listowel.
Victrix Gale leaped over the penultimate fence and cleared remaining obstacles to emerge two and a half lengths from second place finisher Jamsie Hall. "She'll mix and match over fences and hurdles. She jumps well and we'll try to get some black type for her in those mares' novice races somewhere to make here a lot more valuable down the road for stud," Martin said afterwards.
In other action, Ruby Walsh rode Devil's Elbow (4-1 betting odds) ahead of Prince Ludovic and third place finisher Our Victoria in the Limerick.ie Chase. The Ted Walsh-trained jumped into the lead and confidently turned in a three and a three-quarter length victory.
“He's a great and handy little horse. He jumped great and travelled well,” said Ted Walsh, jockey Ruby Walsh’s father. "He stays well and Ruby settled him out to give him a chance to get into it and he picked them up nicely going to the last.”
Ruby Walsh also rode The Folkes Choice (6-4 betting odds) to victory in the Bet On-Course With Tote Maiden. He held off Lord Of Isenay in the final stages by a length and a quarter. God's County came in third.
