Victory Field, a sports venue, located on the southwestern section of downtown Indianapolis, has been widely known for its family friendly environment. Inside this venue are several great products, including the Indianapolis Indians, who are having another great year and are playoff bound once again. When examining to atmosphere experienced at this facility, we noticed a trifecta taking place on Friday evenings. Let’s take a look at this phenomenon.
The venue is a baseball park and the primary product offered at this facility is a baseball game. Victory Field is home to the Indianapolis Indians, the AAA affiliate for the Pittsburgh Pirates, who are currently in first place in MLB’s National League’s Central Division. The Indians have had several players who have become all stars at the major league level, including Andrew McCutcheon, who is currently on the cover of Sony Playstation’s MLB 13, the extremely popular baseball video game. The athletes and coaches on the Indianapolis Indians team, produce an entertaining product at the ballpark, which adds to the excitement of dining at this venue.
Following games on Friday evenings, Victory Field puts on a fireworks show for the fans, no matter who wins the actual game. The fireworks are launched from the field, providing a front row view from all angles within the park. The fireworks display is complimented by the picturesque skyline visible in the background.
The baseball game and the fireworks show are enhanced, when fans are relaxed on a full stomach. Just beyond the left field wall is a cabana style area known as Captain Morgan Cove (21 and over). This area is one of many locations throughout the ballpark where fans can obtain food and beverages; however the experience is a bit different.
As with all areas within Victory Field, the staff within the ‘Cove’ area is extremely friendly, social, and efficient. This adds to the overall experience, especially when you see the staff serving up delicious items like; Bratwursts, large tasty burgers, various kebabs, and many other items outside of the traditional peanuts and hot – dogs found at every other baseball venue throughout the country. This area is a bar and grille located within the venue, that even serves Sunday brunch items, including the ‘Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Bagel’, which provides a great way to relax after church.
For a small fee of $35, fans are able to obtain exclusive access to the south side of Captain Morgan Cove. Included in this fee, is a ticket to the game, exclusive access to the Cove area, and a $10 food/drink voucher. As one fan put it; ‘This is like getting access to the VIP area, without paying a premium’. What makes this area even more attractive is that all of the food and drink items (including spirits) are not exclusive to this particular side. Fans can walk to the north side of the Cove and order directly from the staff, and take the items back to their seating location. This is one of the best values in town.
When observing the entire experience, it became clear that Victory Field has done it again. Great entertainment on the field, romantic fireworks following the Friday night game, and an unbelievable staff serving high quality food, in a restaurant type of environment; simply put Captain Morgan Cove has redefined the Friday Night Trifecta.
