Victoria's Academy of Cosmetology in Kennewick, Washington, offers an extended esthetics program that is in perpetual motion. The privately-owned beauty college was the first school in the United States to offer an extended esthetics program where students could ultimately be prepared for Master Esthetician licensing. Basic licensing requirements recently increased from 600 to 750 hours in Washington State. The Master Esthetician licensing is a 1200 hour requirement, and Victoria's Academy offers a 1250 hour Esthetics Plus Program.
As the industry changes and expands, more estheticians than ever are working in medical settings, such as dermatology and plastic surgery clinics. It has traditionally been quite a transition to go from basic esthetics into the medical arena. The idea behind the Esthetics Plus Program is to prepare the students for classic esthetics, medically-based esthetics, and everything in between. Upon graduating from the Esthetics Plus Program, passing practical and written state board examinations, and becoming a state licensed esthetician, a Victoria's Academy graduate would be qualified for employment in a wide variety of settings within the industry.
Theory topics include anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, spa treatments, and many more. Victoria's Academy Esthetics Plus Program utilizes two textbooks in order to cover basic and advanced skincare topics. Practical topics include basic facials, waxing, machine facials, chemical peels, body wraps, and cellulite treatments.
Victoria's Academy recently hired Jerri Lien to take over the Esthetics Plus Program. Ms. Lien holds Washington State Licenses in Cosmetology, Esthetics, and Esthetics Instruction. She has been involved in the beauty industry since 1988, when she first started beauty school. Jerri went back to school in 1997 to specialize in skincare, attending the prestigious Euro Institute of Skin Care. Ms. Lien has worked as an esthetician is salons, spas, and medical spas, as well as independently. She has continued to keep herself educated within the esthetics field, often attending classes, seminars, and conventions. Jerri completed Clover Park Technical College's Instructor Training Program in 2012, and began teaching at Victoria's Academy in September 2013.
