The May Victoria Day long weekend in Ontario is a travel getaway weekend taking place one week before the American Memorial Day holiday in the U.S. In 2014 the Victoria Day weekend starts today and continues to the official holiday Monday May 19. Canadians celebrate this weekend with a visit to the cottage and the lighting of fireworks to acknowledge Queen Victoria's birthday and Canada's ongoing love affair with everything British.
