Heading into his rematch with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC Fight Night 39, Dan Henderson, a graduate of Victor Valley High School in Victorville, was on a three-fight losing streak. Henderson had not won a match since November 19, 2011, when he won a decision in a close, thrilling fight against Shogun. On March 23, 2014 in Natal, Brazil, the 43-year-old "Hendo" was getting hammered with heavy strikes from the 32-year-old Shogun before pulling off an exciting comeback to win the fight.
Late in the first round, Shogun dropped Henderson with a left hook. Shogun appeared to be very close to finishing the fight with ground strikes, but Henderson managed to weather the storm as time ran out.
In the second round, Shogun used his right hand to drop Henderson. Shogun jumped into Henderson’s guard but was unable to do much damage.
In the third round, Shogun and Henderson briefly clinched, and after separating, Henderson caught Shogun’s nose with a right hand. Shogun fell backwards, and Henderson followed him to the ground to deliver some more punches to Shogun’s head before Referee Herb Dean stopped the fight.
Despite being 43 years old, Henderson seems to have some fight left in him. With his powerful right hand, he still has the ability to end a fight very quickly.
