Victim of first Boston homicide of 2013 identified

The victim of a fatal stabbing that was Boston’s first homicide of the new year has been identified by police.

Anthony Spaulding, 21, of Brighton, died from stab wounds suffered following a fight at a house party at 48 Pratt St. that occurred at approximately 2:43 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 1. Spaulding was taken to Beth Israel Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Brian MacDonald, 24, a resident of Boston, has been charged with murder in the incident. He was arraigned Wednesday at Brighton District Court where he plead not guilty. His bail was set at $500,000. He is scheduled to return to court for a probable cause hearing on Thursday, Feb. 7.

On Tuesday, Boston police from District D-14 responded to a radio call of a person stabbed and arrived to find a male victim suffering from wounds. According to Boston.com, McDonald was a resident of the house where the fight began.

While the BPD did not release information on how they determined MacDonald was involved, Fox 25 Boston reported that police found a suspect by following a trail of blood in the show that MacDonald reportedly suffered on his hand.

Members of the Boston Police Homicide Unit, the Crime Scene Response Unit, detectives and officers of District D-14 conducted interviews and investigated information provided to them and identified and arrested MacDonald in connection with the crime.
