In a statement read by Buzz Ng Bayan host Boy Abunda on Sunday, May 4, 2014, Rod Cornejo, grandfather of Deniece Cornejo, one of the five accused in the serious illegal detention case filed by actor-TV host Vhong Navarro before the Taguig Regional Trial Court Branch 271, believes that his granddaughter is innocent. According to him, Deniece is telling the truth that is why he believes that she should surrender herself to the authorities and trust the judicial system to determine her innocence.

Rod Cornejo also asked Buzz Ng Bayan viewers not to judge his granddaughter, Deniece, whose rape complaint against Vhong Navarro was dismissed by the Department of Justice several weeks ago due to lack of evidence. Meanwhile, in an interview with reporters several days ago following the arrest of Cedric Lee and Zimmer Raz in the Town of Oras, Eastern Samar, Atty. Emetrio Dongallo of the National Bureau of Investigation Samar District Office revealed that Deniece was probably in the area when they arrested the two

According to him, they found a lady dress in the house where the arrested suspects harbored for almost a week after Judge Paz Esperanza Cortez of the Taguig Regional Trial Court Branch 271 issued arrest warrants against them. Incidentally, Cedric and Zimmer are still in the custody of the NBI because of a motion filed by Atty. Howard Calleja.

Reports said they will come face to face with Vhong Navarro this coming May 6 at the sala of Judge Paz Esperanza Cortez, in an interview with reporters several days ago, Atty. Alma Mallonga, lawyer of actor Vhong Navarro confirmed the appearance of his client, according to her, Vhong is physically and emotionally ready to face the suspects. Obviously, this is going to be a very long but exciting battle for Vhong Navarro because his foes are dedicated to prove their innocence in court despite the evidences gathered by the NBI at Deniece's condominium unit.
