Common motif's include religious imagery like playing hands--or as Puma stated "the old white man hands"--and how the artists attempt to do different things with the ideas to keep it from being mundane. Also birds are popular with female clients. The Tupac Cross--made famous by the late rapper--is also deemed highly popular.
One tattoo that the artists all agreed needed to be retired is getting a name on their tattoo. Whether their own name or someone else's they hate when clients ask for names tattooed on them.
