VH-1 confirmed on Monday Feb. 11 that rapper Lil’ Mama will play the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes in a biopic of the super-group TLC after numerous reports regarding the casting surfaced across the web over the weekend. The music channel is producing the film along with surviving members Tionne Watkins and Rozanda Thomas who are also consultants for the project. Principal photography for the movie is slated to begin sometime this year.
In a post on its website the network said it was excited about Lil’ Mama taking on the part.
“We can’t wait to see what she does with the role.”
The 23-year-old Lil’ Mama whose was born Niatia Jessica Kirkland is also a rapper and former judge for the MTV dance show “America’s Best Dance Crew”. She is most notably known for her hit “Lip Gloss” from 2007.
Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes succumbed to injuries following a car accident in 2002. She was one third of the 90’s platinum-selling group which charted with “Waterfalls”, “No Scrubs”, “Unpretty” and “Creep”.
