Veterans seeking help over the holidays

Don’t make Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa the ‘be all end all’ of giving. Why not give yourself a boost and continue to give to others who desperately need your assistance throughout the entire New Year? This would be especially gratifying if you gave to veterans who have dedicated their lives to keeping you free in the United States.

The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) makes it easy to give. They have online donation buttons for you to click so that no one is the wiser – except you of course. And when you know that you have done the right thing, your life is so much easier, too!

If DAV had not stepped in to help Mitchell Harquail, a Marine helicopter gunner that served the U.S. in Iraq and was severely injured in the line of duty, he may not have made it through his holiday. Besides the physical injuries, the recurring memories haunted him. He could not escape the horrific aspects of war. That was until the Disabled American Veterans organization stepped in to help him. Now, instead of considering himself a hero for serving his country, he considers those who give so he can receive his heroes!

Harquail did not let his past stop him. After he received help from DAV, he found another mission in life. He developed a new way to give back to fellow veterans by becoming a DAV National Service Officer (NSO). With his new lease on life, this retired Marine is a new man with a new purpose. “It is the best job in the world,” he says. “I know I change the lives of veterans and their families.” Because many donated to DAV, previous military personnel are able to get back on track and continue the cycle of giving; paying it forward as they say.

Wouldn’t you like to feel as though you had a part in creating a new life for a military man or woman that just needed a break after the throes of war? It is possible. Just click to give a holiday gift to DAV now! Then think about making it a monthly donation; whatever you are able to afford.

Donations don’t have to be big, they just have to be. It all starts with you and me. A small gift on our part can mean a life-changing gift for someone redefining their way in life after serving our country in war. Each gift is a gift of healing!

And, remember, if you give before the end of 2013, you can fully deduct your donation on your taxes! Your donation will help everyone involved! Merry Christmas!
