Veterans Day 2009 gives us the opportunity to celebrate and honor the sacrifice of all US veterans. Veterans Day is also known as Armistice Day, and was first celebrated on November 11, 1918 after the end of World War I. It became a legal holiday on November 11, 1938 and was "dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be hereafter celebrated and known as 'Armistice Day,'" according to Military.com.
Originally was called Armistice Day, but 1954 after both World Wars were over, the US Congress amended the Act of 1938 by removing the word Armistice and inserted the word Veterans, this legislation was approved on June 1, 1954. And November 11th became Veterans Day to celebrate and honor all veterans.
