It has been an agonizingly long time coming, but the 4-year-old American Allaunt named "Dutch," is finally free from the threat of being destroyed, reported Friday's publication of the Denver Post.
Dutch, who belongs to Jeremy Aguilar, a disabled Army veteran, is no longer in danger of being put down for biting a woman in November 2012, because a jury acquitted Aguilar on Friday.
In February, the Montrose Municipal Court had ordered Dutch to be destroyed for the November attack on Dutch's former owner. The judge had declared that Dutch was not suitable for rehabilitation.
Following the ruling, Aguilar initially refused to turn his dog over to officials and, as a result, a warrant for his arrest was issued. In June, Aguilar did turn his dog over to officials in a final bid to win an appeal to save Dutch's life.
Now that the appeal has been won, Dutch and Aguilar have been reunited and will be moving out of Colorado.
