Veteran rocker Marty Balin to appear in Montclair

Marty Balin, a founding member of Jefferson Airplane, who sang hits with Jefferson Starship, followed by a multi-hit career as a solo artist will be coming to The Outpost in the Burbs in Montclair, NJ on March 8th.

Jefferson Airplane was put together by Balin and Guitarist Paul Kantner to be the house band for The Matrix, a club that Balin opened in San Francisco in 1965. They went on to be one of the most successful of the San Fancisco psychedelic bands in the late '60s. Jefferson Airplane appeared at the three most famous music festivals of the '60s: Monterey, Woodstock, and the ill-fated Altamont. Balin as a member of the band was inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.

Balin shared lead singing duties with first Signe Anderson and then Glace Slick in The Airplane. Many of his compositions were recorded by the band and when Kantner formed The Jefferson Starship in 1974, Balin contributed songs to that band before becoming a member. He sang lead on 'Miracles,' 'With Your love,' and 'Count On Me.'

As a solo artist Balin had a top 10 hit in 1981 with 'Hearts.'

Special guest, singer-songwriter Jesse Terry will also be appearing.
