It’s a boy! According to a post on Facebook by Coolmore, on April 9 Ashford Stud in Lexington, Kentucky welcomed the 2013 foal by Vertigineux. The new colt is a full brother to the famous mare Zenyatta.
All things considered, the new colt is in great company, having been born to racehorse stars. Being the baby brother to the incredible Zenyatta probably straps a heap of promise on the foal, and he’ll undoubtedly have huge horse shoes to fill. Both Zenyatta and the colt are by the well-known Darley stallion Street Cry (IRE). Vertigineux is the winning daughter of Kris S. She also produced a multiple Grade I winner Balance.
When Dermot Ryan, manager of Coolmore's Ashford Stud, spoke with the Racing Post, he said of Vertigineux’s foal, "He's a good quality bay colt, and both mare and foal are doing well."
Zenyatta, owned by Jerry and Ann Moss, was named 2010 Horse of the Year. The speedy mare captured 19 wins out of 20 races, 13 of which were Grade 1 races.
The great mare is the only female to bring home the win in the Gr.I Breeders' Cup Classic .
We wish mom Vertigineux and colt the best.
