Veronica Rothenhausler hopes to welcome Gina Carano to the UFC

According to an Apr. 10 tweet from Veronica Rothenhausler, "The Heartbreaker" has confirmed her interest in welcoming Gina Carano to the UFC.

Rothenhausler, a 24-year-old featherweight striker who has won four-straight fights by TKO or knockout, has great respect for the former Strikeforce standout, but she would still jump at the chance to punch her in the face. "The Heartbreaker" says she has business to handle with Charmaine Tweet at Invicta FC 8, before she can start focusing on Carano. However, she admits Carano is someone who has been on her radar for a while now.

Rothenhausler, who is coming off a knockout victory at Invicta FC 4, knows a fight against Carano makes plenty of sense, no matter if it happens in the UFC or in Invicta FC. The UFC likely wants to give Carano a tune-up fight before setting her up for a bout against UFC champ Ronda Rousey, so she'll probably have to take on one of the top 145-pound contenders in the meantime.

Since Cris "Cyborg" Santos is already expected to be booked up for a fight against Ediane Gomes at Invicta FC 8, Rothenhausler is left as the perfect candidate for the job of welcoming Carano to the Octagon. Carano hasn't competed in a mixed martial arts fight since Aug. 15, 2009, when she lost to Santos. It's been five years since her last MMA appearance, so the UFC most likely wants to ease her back into action.

"The Heartbreaker" would make for an interesting test for Carano's return, as the fight would pit one of the fast-rising strikers against a grizzled veteran who used to love to stand and bang. In all likelihood, Rothenhausler versus Carano would be an exciting standup war that would end via knockout or TKO.

The only problem is that UFC President Dana White recently stated that if Carano makes it into the UFC, she'll need to fight at 135 pounds. White knows a potential fight between Carano and Rousey isn't an exhibition, so he doesn't want to do it at a catchweight.

Even with that said, Carano needs a warm-up fight before taking on Rousey. Just getting back into action to wipe away from ring rust is important. Perhaps she could fight Rothenahausler at 145 pounds in Invicta FC, before making the cut to 135 pounds for a bantamweight fight against Rousey.
