Yesterday, Verizon finally launched the highly anticipated HTC ThunderBolt in cities across the United States. There are more than a few new owners here in San Francisco and they have been filling me in on their initial thoughts.
One gripe that a few of them have and one that has been raised in not only tests but in reviews of the HTC ThunderBolt, is the battery life of the device. As of right now, the HTC ThunderBolt employs a 1,400mAh battery, one that apparently only allows up to 2.5 hours of LTE streaming.
Fortunately, HTC and Verizon are working on a bigger battery for the ThunderBolt, one that will double the power of the current battery and will check in at 2,750mAh.
As of right now, there is no definitive release date (except to say ‘very soon’) for the battery but Verizon has confirmed that it will cost $50when it hits shelves in San Francisco and outlets across the United States. Besides costing money, there is another downside as well.
The battery will apparently add another ounce of weight to the ThunderBolt bringing the total weight of the device up to 7 ounces.
It will also make it thicker.
Anyone out there with a ThunderBolt willing to make these sacrifices for better battery life?
