Yesterday, it became known that some Motorola Droid X owners were experiencing screen issues and that some of those people were in fact receiving new handsets from Verizon because of them. So that essentially was a confirmation that the problem was real but neither Verizon nor Motorola had commented publicly.

What a difference 24 hours makes.

Verizon has spilled the beans and they acknowledge that yes there is an issue with the screen but that the problem is not very widespread like many of you confirmed. Here is what they told Engadget in a statement:

"Verizon Wireless and Motorola are aware of a very small number of DROID X units that have experienced a flickering or banding display. Motorola has resolved the issue and is continuing to ship the phones. Any consumer who experiences a flickering or banding display should contact a Motorola customer support center or Verizon Wireless."

Essentially, if you wind up with a defective screen when you receive your Droid X, you can give them a call and you will get another phone. It seems like they have this under control though so hearing about this again should be pretty unlikely.

In fact, if this happened to you, you should probably go out and buy a lottery ticket immediately because apparently it only affected one tenth of one percent of Droid X’s that were sold.

Any of you fall into that lucky group?
