After almost two years of rumors, it seems that the Verizon iPhone is finally going to be confirmed. Since the iPhone’s inception, many analysts and consumers alike have criticized Apple for signing the exclusivity deal with AT&T, because it limited the potential market to sell the iPhone. This exclusivity contract is ending in a few months, and with a new breaking report, the iPhone seems to finally be confirmed for Verizon and other carriers.
The report according to the Wall Street Journal, is that several unnamed sources have confirmed that Apple will produce the next generation of iPhone with technology that makes it compatible with almost any wireless network, most notably including Verizon and Sprint. This would potentially allow Apple to take advantage of the entire cell phone market, and allow the iPhone to become the most popular and powerful electronic device in the world.
While there have been many rumors over the past months and years of the Verizon iPhone coming, this one seems to be the real deal. The Wall Street Journal is rarely wrong when it comes to going out on a limb, and Wall Street itself, is responding. Today AT&T’s stock decreased 2%, while Apple’s stock went up $3.46, and most importantly, Verizon finished up 2.5% after being up over 4% at one point in the day. These are all pretty high jumps for a single days worth of trading. It also would confirm a previous rumor of the announcement of the iPhone 4G this April. The expected date of release for the Verizon iPhone is September.
