Verizon Wireless celebrates Marvin Sapp, Grammy nominee, Gospel Recording Artist on Monday, according to The Belle Report. Pastor Marvin Louis Sapp was born and raised in Grand Rapids , Michigan, and has made many appearances in Detroit, MI.
Sapp says he began singing with his father at the age of four.
In recognition of Black History Month (February) Marvin Sapp is one of nine other innovative African Americans that will be celebrated through multimedia on Verizon’s website.
Sapp is the Pastor of Lighthouse Full Life Center Church located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Sapp strongly believes in giving back to the community. Each year the church sponsors a ‘Back To School Rally’, and 'Feed The Children' trucks come in. They feed, clothe and provide supplies to 2,000 children, affecting 5,000 participants.
Sapp’s parents divorced when he was a young boy (10), and he tells the story of growing up being hungry and not having school supplies. Giving back to the community is something Sapp says he loves to do. (Watch the video)
Sapp lost his father and then his wife, Malinda Sapp died in September 2010, to colon cancer.
Marvin Sapp is anointed to reach people through his God-given gift of singing and songwriting. His singing cuts right to the marrow. Marvin Sapp will be written in the history books as one of the greatest Gospel singer’s of all time, you can believe this.
Marvin Sapp became extremely popular when he delivered the song, “Never Would Have Made It.” This song debuted in 2007, and was #1 on the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs chart, and was #1 on the U S Billboard Top Gospel Albums.
“Never Would Have Made It” is considered gold because more than 500,000 copies have been sold. The song crossed-over and has been played on Jazz and secular stations.
Sapp is in the process of opening up a Charter School, Great Schools, Inc. It is the only performing arts school in Western Michigan.
