Veritas means truth in Latin and the truth is Veritas, the Sturbridge restaurant that is, is a place to enjoy a fine meal or just a pizza and a beer.
Actually, you don’t have to take the word of the Pioneer Valley Restaurant Examiner. Chef Robert Bleifer of the Food Network recently visited for an evening with Kurt Soukup the chef and co-owner of Veritas and expressed his appreciation. Kurt, with wife and partner Kelly, had an open air restaurant on the Puerto Rican Island of Vieques. As there is a snow storm brewing as this is being written, one has to ask, "What were they Thinking." Not that I have a problem with them coming back.
Of course, the PVRE and co. have enjoyed visits to this Sturbridge venue even if TV celebrity chefs never show up.
The menu runs to fine dining, but with room for some not so upscale offerings. The pizzas are called Stone Pies and come in interesting styles such as pulled pork and bacon triple cheeseburger. The term, stone pie does not mean rocks in the dough, but refers to the type of oven.
Whether German style beef, or seafood, homemade bread or dessert, we’ve never been disappointed. You can see my review in the Sturbridge Times Magazine (not under the pen name).
Burgers are also a house specialty with a build your own option.
Most week nights there is a theme. For example, Wednesday is Caribbean Night and Thursday, Pasta Night. There are happy hour specials as well.
Veritas is located at 420 Main Street in Stubridge, MA. They have a lot of information on the website, http://veritasma.com/.
