One night only- November 8, 2013 at The Breen Center
Verb Ballets and Shadowbox Live of Columbus have formed a partnership for the one night only performance of “The Masque: The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe” that will be performed at the Breen Center on November 8, 2013.
“The Masque” is a collaborative effort that blends the exceptional dancing of Verb Ballets with Shadowbox Live’s contemporary rock and roll musicianship and acting for an evening of unparalleled entertainment.
The original score is composed by the musicians of Shadowbox’s band “Light” who will be performing live on stage with the dancers. Although the music is definitely rock and roll in all respects it is strongly influenced by the works of Beethoven, Schoenberg, Ruggles and Ives.
The dance sequence (choreographed by Verb Ballets’ Associate Director, Richard Dickinson and Verb dancers) is taken from the Edgar Allen Poe tale “The Masque of the Red Death”. Modern party goers (in full punk regalia) go from room to room within a castle with each new space being the staging area for an additional Poe story in dance and music. Shadowbox Live’s Tom Cardinal will portray Poe as he acts as guide through the various scenes of revelry as the outside world collapses into chaos.
