Things are starting to look a bit brighter for Venus Williams as she has just grabbed the Dubai Championship title. According to ESPN on Feb. 22, the tennis star came through to win over Alize Cornet of France in a 6-3, 6-0 victory. This is her third Dubai title, winning in 2009 and 2010.

The seven-time Grand Slam champion breezed right through this past week as she won over Elena Vesnina, Ana Ivanovic, Flavia Pennetta, and Caroline Wozniacki. It was looking towards a final match up with her sister, Serena Williams, for the title. However, it was not to be as Cornet upset Serena in the semi-final on Friday. Serena has been battling a back injury since the Australian Open and ended up looking quite sluggish on the court.

Playing as a wild card, Venus Williams commanded the court, not letting her opponent win even one game in the second set. What was the her reaction after the win?

“Wow. It’s wonderful to be back after a four-year absence,” Venus said. “I really was expecting to play Serena in the final, but [Cornet] really played a massive game in the semifinal so congratulations for that.”

The 33-year-old champ has been battling Sjogren's Syndrome, which means that fatigue sets in easily. However, the 44th ranked tennis star certainly hasn’t let that stop her in this particular tournament. It seems that she has taken very good care of herself being able to manage the disease and it shows. She did say that her health seems to be improving a bit and that she was able to go out and practice more. Whatever she is doing , it sure is working for her.

This is Venus’ first title since 2012 when she won the Luxembourg tournament. She is expected to move up to number 29 in the ATP ranking next week.
